Information to help your application requirements

If you are considering applying to study at PIHMS, this page will help you to prepare for your application requirements

If you’re considering applying for the Bachelor of Applied Hotel Management you will need to provide information about your high school qualification and meet the following requirements:

  • University Entrance
  • All applicants are interviewed
  • Students under 17.5 will be assessed on a case by case basis.
  • Overseas students will also require an ESOL minimum of IELTS 6.0 (with no band score lower than 5.5) 

Covid-19 Disruption
Due to disruption caused by Covid-19 students who finished their last year of high school in 2020 or 2021 are required to have NCEA Level 3 or equivalent international qualifications.

If you’re considering applying for the New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management you will need to provide information about your high school qualification and meet the following requirements:

  • NCEA Level 2
  • All applicants are interviewed
  • Students under 17.5 will be assessed on a case by case basis.
  • Overseas students will also require an ESOL minimum of IELTS 6.0 (with no band score lower than 5.5) 

If you’re considering applying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Hotel Management you must provide information about your previous study, work experience.

  •  

    Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor Degree in business management or a related hospitality area

    • Degrees in other disciplines may be considered if the applicant has 2 - 3 years relevant hospitality experience at a supervisory level, or equivalent.
  • All applicants are interviewed
  • Overseas students will require an ESOL minimum of IELTS 6.5, or equivalent (no band score lower than 6)
    • Alternatively, you can demonstrate you meet the English Language requirements by:
      • Been awarded a Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours Degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree with English as the language of instruction from a tertiary education provider from Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States.

If you’re considering applying for the Master of Hotel Management you must provide information about your previous study, work experience.

  • Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor Degree in business management or a related hospitality area with at least a B- grade average at level 7 (or higher)
    • Degrees in other disciplines may be considered if the applicant has 3 years relevant hospitality experience at a supervisory level, or equivalent.
  • All applicants are interviewed
  • Overseas students will require an ESOL minimum of IELTS 6.5, or equivalent (no band score lower than 6)
    • Alternatively, you can demonstrate you meet the English Language requirements by:
      • Been awarded a Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours Degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree with English as the language of instruction from a tertiary education provider from Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States.
