Go Global – Bali Life for PIHMS Graduate

15 February 2021

Judd Rabbidge has had an exciting and eminent career in Sales & Marketing, spending the last decade working in some of the top resorts and hotels all over the world including the Maldives, Indonesia and Australia. Judd, started at PIHMS in 2005 after finishing high school at Francis Douglas Memorial College and graduated 2 ½ years later with his Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management.

What is your current job role?

I am currently the Director of Sales & Marketing for the W Bali – Seminyak, part of the W brand (Marriott International). I have been here for the last 2 years and thoroughly enjoying Bali and Marriott International.

How did PIHMS help you?

PIHMS was my foundation to begin in the industry – learning everything from front office, kitchen, housekeeping all the way to marketing it was essential to put me ahead of the rest. I understand operations and my next step will be a General Manager. Without PIHMS my fast track in the industry wouldn’t have been possible. When people are reviewing my CV in the industry, PIHMS gives me that extra leap ahead of other candidates. I am an avid supporter of PIHMS, what it stands for and the talent it brings to the industry.

Why do you love working in the Hospitality and Tourism industry?

The industry is one of the only in the world that allows you to live where the world wants to holiday, where people go for their annual experience you experience every day, you can live in a new environment often and learn cultures. Plus to see people create lifelong memories is a special job to have. This industry is ever changing also – the creative flair is forever changing. I wouldn’t want to be in another industry!

How has Covid-19 affected you and the business?

Being in a resort destination we have been effected heavily by the restrictions on international travel. We’ve had to recreate our marketing efforts to focus on domestic as well as recalibrate our rate structures to become more attractive to this market. We are also doing day passes (villa use), DJ classes in our sound suite and floating breakfasts in Villa pools as an add-on for bookings at the moment to attract a wider market. We have a new commitment to clean procedure across all Marriott properties globally that includes sanitization standards of rooms and health protocols for all staff and guests, it’s one of the most thorough in the industry so guests feel safe and taken care of.
