“After graduating PIHMS, I started working in the UK at the Raddison Hotel in Leeds. From there my career as a chef has taken me all around the world to France, Sweden, Australia and I have ended up on the beautiful Vancouver Island in Canada.

A couple of my career highlights have been Sous Chef at Craggy Range Winery Terrior Restaurant in Hawkes Bay and Sous Chef at 28+ in Gothenburg in Sweden (a long standing Michelin Star restaurant) as well as running Unsworth Restaurant here at Unsworth Vineyards for the past 4 ½ years.

“I have a lot of good memories from my time at PIHMS. I remember the friends I had and the shenanigans we got up to mostly. I probably had a bit too much fun sometimes! It’s hard to believe its 15+ years ago since I graduated”

The management skills I learnt at PIHMS have been invaluable to my success. In particular the organizational behaviour class which I enjoyed taught me a lot of skills including how to manage different people in different ways which is key in my day to day running of the restaurant. Even though the training at PIHMS was not fully focused on the culinary aspect of the industry, this was the part of the course I enjoyed the most and as I have moved up through the ranks in kitchens.

“The paid Industry Placements were key to the course to get real experience and make a bit of money.”
